The point of FL Studio is to draw patterns into the Timeline and have alternating patterns play in a sequence to create a whole track. In FL Studio 12, clicking on the foot icon up top puts you in pattern mode. When you have drawn some patterns in the timeline you can start to play your song in Song mode.
If you double click a note in Piano Roll, you can set modx, mod y, pan, fine pitch, velocity and release. I know what all of them do, except release. Changing the value of it seems to have no effect.
What's it for? I can't find much about in support.
Secondly, with mod x, mod y, and velocity, I can use them to run an automation signal via mapping in Envelope Controller. I use these signals to automate timbre properties (like filters, or wet-dry knobs on effects etc) to write more expressive lines.

An extra parameter would allow for more expression - is there any way I can harness the release parameter as another automation signal, like I describe above?
